About Me

Aloha!

I'm passionate about inspiring children of all ages to learn more about themselves through art. I am a mother, a daughter, a wife, an artist, an educator and lifelong learner

When I’m not teaching in a classroom, you might find me in a number of different places, trying new foods, or watching some sort of sport and almost always with at least one of my family members.

As an artist

I’m an old school crafter with an urban twist and vintage flare. I appreciate the art in the process of creating something by hands rather than machines.

With the pace of life seemingly increasing due to advancements in technology, there’s something so special about not being able to rush in order to bring things into completion. I appreciate making art like I appreciate pregnancy; it is essential to live in the process before the birth of the masterpiece.

The feeling I have of children growing up too quickly is countered through the whimsical designs that I print. The sun catchers that I make are all in hopes that I can inspire wonder and joy to those around. And the cactus that I have created have been in response to becoming more sustainable as well as show my quirky sense of humor.

Most recently, I have been convicted with the amount of excess and overconsumption in our daily lives. I have developed a new interest in sewing, quilt making, and repurposing clothes that would normally be discarded. I’m beginning to explore new ways of what carrying a visual history in my art might look like and look forward to see what emerges.

As an Educator

“Aside from my family, Art and Children are my greatest passions”

I believe learning should be fun and experimental. It should be an experience that sparks curiosity and leads to self discovery. Art is inclusive and expressive and valuable to our society.

As an educator, I strive to create for all students - regardless of their ability, cultural background, or identity - a safe space to create, explore and learn more about who they are as well as those around them. My classroom encourages meaningful discussions, critical thinking and the development of finding each student’s artistic voice.

The curriculum I create for my students reflects the diversity in cultures, addresses relevant social issues, and gives exposure to various current and past artists. I understand that there are multiple ways of learning and make an effort to offer various approaches in my assignments.

I see art as a living practice - one that students can and should engage with daily, create through, and carry with them throughout the rest of their lives.
